When to tell?

Hi! FTM & FTD here.. I want to scream from the rooftops that we’re expecting and my dear SO wants to wait. We watched (and supported) his sister through three devastating miscarriages before we got our perfect little nephew so I do understand the hesitation. However, we have been trying (and family knows) for 18 months.. question is, how long did you wait? How did you contain your excitement?

With our first we waited 8w for our parents and 12-13 for the rest. With our second we waited 13 w (till our first ultrasound for everyone. In both cases I told 1-2 friends just in case.  Also I never announced any of my pregnancy on social media until after I gave birth.

I told my parents and MIL right away and a couple very close friends as soon as I found out l. Everyone else found out much later, I was 20+ wks when I did an announcement on Facebook.
The way I think of it is the only people I tell early are the ones I'm comfortable telling if something happened to the pregnancy.

This time around, we shared the good news early on. 
We waited the first time, and our family literally found out that I was pregnant, and losing the baby (all in one phone call) when I was rushed into surgery for an ectopic.
After that experience, we decided that no matter what happened with this pregnancy, we wanted to tell our family.
