Has anyone had their toddlers hearing tested?

I’m taking my 18 mo old to get his hearing tested on Thursday. I’m wondering what to expect? I know he will cry the whole time because he has stranger danger. 
Also moms who do have kids with hearing problems- what were the signs you saw?

They let my son sit in my lap during his check and it went perfectly. They'll guide you into a soundproof box and shut the door and the child wears ear buds while the nurse/doc talks with him and tests his responses. 
The earbuds measure the ear canal and can pick up on blockage or fluid and they will show you the readings (looks like a messy line graph) and tell you what it means.

I took my baby only because he had frequent ear infections and needed tubes. It wasn’t too bad. They had him sit on my lap and played sounds from each side. My baby would turn his head towards the sound. There was some other quick test where they had a thing up by his ear but it was super fast
