July 2020 IUI #1 and my wife attended the appointments over FaceTime.

October 2020 IUI #2 and my wife attended the appointments over FaceTime.

December 2020 IUI #3 and my wife attended the appointments over FaceTime.

March 2021 IVF multiple scans, multiple blood work, and an egg retrieval procedure. We choose to film our process so I couldn’t film the appointments and have her present via FaceTime. So she watches the videos to see what happened. My embryos were frozen for a transfer at a later time. I asked the doctor if my wife could be in the transfer if we were both vaccinated. The answer was still no. Until the CDC changes the guidelines my wife cannot be apart of any of the process to make our child. It is sad to be at these appointments alone. It is sad to plan to have a baby knowing that guidelines still may not change and my wife will not get to be at appointments even once I’m pregnant. Besides being hard for me, it’s hard for my wife to feel like she isn’t apart of the process at all.

We can go to the beach, the zoo, restaurants, grocery stores, and small gatherings, but not to fertility or maturity appointments. It’s not fair this needs to change. Women shouldn’t be going through this alone.
