Tubes in ears?

My son will be 2 next month and has had a number of ear infections that take a long time to heal. He’s been on antibiotics this time for 5 days and went for a check up and the inside of his little ear is still bright red. Doctor referred us to a Ear Nose Throat doctor next week. I’m nervous. I had tubes as a child but he seems so young to be put under for tubes. Anyone else have a child around his age that needs tubes or have them already with advise and If so what was the price range? NOT that it matters, if they say he needs them he will get them no matter what. Just curious. We have Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.

I was 1 when I got my tubes. Apparently was a life saver for my mom, she would finally get to sleep (as I had spent most nights crying, first from colic then from insane numbers of ear infections... lol). And it obviously helped me with the infections, a lot. Maybe even saved my hearing. Definitely go for it!

I got tubes put in my ears when I was 1. I still have some hearing problems due to all the infections. Tubes did help because I went a long time without a ear infection. As an adult I get them from time to time but nothing like when I was a baby.

I know someone whose son had his done around 1, maybe younger. I had tubes in my ears 4 times as a child, not sure when the first time was, but the last time was around 7/8 when I had my tonsils taken out. I stopped getting them after that surgery, but I used to get them alllll the time. My tonsils just weren’t doing their job which is why I kept getting the ear infections.

I worked for an ENT and I saw kiddos younger than 2 that had tubes done. They are beneficial. Both my nephews have even had them done. Insurance should cover the procedure.

Ear infections cause hearing loss (like hearing under water). You do not want your kiddo to have hearing loss at 2 when language development is burgeoning. I know it sounds scary, but if he’s having chronic infections, it’s the best thing you can do for him. The procedure is so quick. Call your insurance company. They’ll tell you what your plan covers. No one is going to be able to give you that info on here.

My son got tubes and had his adenoids removed at the same time when he was 2. It helped SO much! He immediately started hearing better and talking more clearly. And hasn’t had an ear infection since. He’s almost 5 now.
