Are baby walkers safe?

I'm looking for opinions on baby walkers. A few websites I've looks at are saying they are unsafe due to the babies being able to get to unsafe locations such as stairs and them being able to go fast in them, but in reality how fast can a baby go?!?! I'm thinking these concerns aren't a big deal if you're a good parent that watches their baby. Have you used one before? Do you think they're safe?

Walkers that babies can sit in and roll around aren’t safe. They also don’t encourage correct walking and hip development. 
Push walkers are okay under supervision. We always made sure the baby gates were up when our son was pushing his push toy around.

Personally I don’t own one and wouldn’t buy one. My mom has one at her house and wants him to use it but he’s still too small (he’s 8 months).  There’s a lot of research from a developmental standpoint on how it can affect hips and joints and milestones like waking sitting etc. Look up “container syndrome”. Obviously the harm comes from extended use. I found two Instagram accounts helpful as I was learning about this. Neither of them say not to use them, but they do say how to use them properly and what to watch for. Both are pediatric physical therapists. They know what they’re talking about.

I’ve used them with both of my older children.
I’ve never had an issue. We’ve never been around stairs or anything they could fall off of.
I didn’t leave them in there for extended periods of time. It didn’t effect their hips or walking or whatever other crazy things I’ve recently seen.
I’ll use one again with my new baby.

They’re illegal here in Canada but babies can actually go pretty fast. My 9 month old is walking with assistance but sometimes before I even put her down she is doing a running motion, I’d imagine in a walker she could go fairly fast.

I used them. And no they aren’t safe if you plan to leave your child alone in them and use them as a babysitter. If you plan to watch them and be involved in play then they are fine I’ve had 4 kids zero accidents all you have to do is pay attention

Honestly, as with any child toy it can be dangerous if they aren’t supervised. My son had a walker and he loved it and we never had any issues. I also didn’t keep him in it for long periods of time because babies may be discouraged to try to walk on their own.

I used it with my 1st, won't with my second,  my son did infact tip over, and they run fast lol. But mostly it affected the way he walked,  he walked on his tip toes for a long time and it slowed him down on learning how to pull himself up, on hisown , and learning to walk sooner. Yeah definitely letting the little guy roam free lol
