Last September, I was diagnosed with bilateral pulmonary embolisms and deep vein thrombosis. I almost died. I had a thromboslysis and was on oxygen and was in Surgical Intensive Care. I was put on Eliquis.

I had genetic testing done and was negative for all known factors for blood clots. I have the Mirena, which has an extremely low to non-existent risk, but that's the only lead have as to what may have caused it. He said that as soon as I had it removed, he would begin to lower my Eliquis dosage.

My last extended period lasted for thirteen days right after I came home from the hospital on blood thinners. After that, the period returned to a normal length as my body adjusted to the medication.

I was finally able to get my IUD removed last Thursday. Since then, I've been having an extended period of nine days so far. This was my second Mirena. When I had the first one removed, I switched right into the second, so I don't have any experience to compare it to. This time, I may not be able to use birth control ever again. I'm wondering if it is normal for the period to be prolonged after IUD removal even without blood thinners? I'm still on thinners, so this could be the result of a combination of the two.

Picture for attention. I made orange juice the other day.
