Nap Advice 🥲

Yesenia

Hi mamas! I need some nap training advice - After trying everything else in the book I decided to try the cry-it-out method with my 14 month old for naps (he sleeps just fine by himself at night) and I’m having some issues with him falling back asleep after one sleep cycle. He got the hang of falling asleep by himself right away after the first day (he only cried for a little before doing so) and on the first day he woke up after 45 minutes, fussed for about 8 minutes and then fell back asleep.

We are on day 4 now and he goes to sleep in less than 5 minutes but he wakes up after about 45 minutes (a sleep cycle) and cannot put himself back to sleep. Prior to nap training he would nap for 2-3 hours once a day. I leave him in there for 15-20 minutes after he wakes up to give him a chance to go back to sleep and I can see that he’s trying but unable to. He has a sound machine and blackout curtains and a small lovey. Will this correct itself? Any advice helps, thank you!

What are his wake windows? It could be that he isn’t building enough sleep pressure for a good solid nap. For example, here is my sons schedule he will be 15 months on 4/8.Wake up: 6:30-7amNap: 12-12:30 pmNaps for 3 hours Bedtime: 7:30-8 pmAt 14 months old most babies are ready for the 1 nap transition, so wake windows need to be between 5 to 6 hours before going down to sleep.

Also, most babies when they wake up from a 45 min nap will not go back to sleep. Think of a baby like a cup a glass, when it’s full they are full of energy, when you empty the glass the baby is ready for sleep. They sleep they are refilling that glass, so they need to build sleep pressure in order to be able to get a good solid nap. This is why wake windows are so helpful. Let me know if you have questions. I have lots of tips and this is ck

He's going to have a difficult time going back to sleep once he wakes because he pees when he wakes and is now wet. You can take him potty and then try putting him back down works with my 15M old most of the time.Another option is to have him take 2 45 minute naps instead of 1 longer one. Especially if he is sleeping longer stretches at night this is a good option.

Just leave him in the crib for the desired nap duration and he’ll eventually learn to just fall back asleep since no one is coming to take him out.
