Positive Birth Story ✨

I was due with my second baby boy 3/27. At my appointment 3/26 I was 3cm dilated so my doctor asked if I wanted to be induced. I said hell yes! Lol so the following day 3/27 I went to L&D for a foley bulb. I posted another story about that so if you are interested in what that was like, click my profile. They sent me home with an appointment at 11am the following day for pitocin. The bulb was supposed to get me to a 5 and they told me the bulb would fall out once I got there.
I got home and was so uncomfortable. The bulb sits on your cervix and they tape a tube to your leg to create tension. There is no universe where that’s comfortable 😓 It was causing some cramps all afternoon. That evening at 11:30 a really strong contraction hit. Then another, then another. After how close those three were I decided to time them. The continued to get more painful with each contraction and they were 2 minutes apart. After an hour, I decided to call L&D. My first baby was days of labor so I felt premature going to L&D but the advise nurse said to head in since they were close together, I was in so much pain, and 30 minute drive from hospital. The bulb hadn’t fallen out so in my mind that meant I wasn’t a five and I only had contractions for an hour... but my gut instinct said I needed to get there.
We get to the hospital and I’m hardly able
To walk through contractions. They get me to triage, remove the bulb, and I’m
An EIGHT!! I was shocked. I went from a 3 to an 8 in an hour and a half! We get to the delivery room and the nurse said if I wanted to epidural it was now or never. Since everything was going so fast, I kind of panicked and decided to get the epidural. Y’all I am so glad I did. I proceeded to have the most beautiful delivery.
I felt nothing after the epidural. The nurse checked me a couple hours later and I was at a 10. Since I was GBS positive they wanted me to wait one more hour before pushing to finish the second bag of antibiotics. Once that was done, the doctor came in and said “let’s have a baby!” I couldn’t believe it because I still couldn’t feel any pain. The nurse started telling me when contractions were happening and I noticed I could feel a bit of tightening so I knew when to push. 15 minutes of pushing later and Owen James entered this world at 8.5 pounds and 20inches. It was amazing. I felt the pressure of his body moving through the birth canal so I knew when to push and what muscles to use but NO PAIN AT ALL! I did have a 3rd degree tear but again... didn’t feel a thing! I had a bit of hemorrhaging with the placenta delivery that required sponging for the blood and a few internal stitches to stop the bleeding. Once I saw his face I couldn’t stop sobbing. He was my rainbow baby after a loss at 23 weeks followed by another loss at 10 weeks. I didn’t think I would ever see the day I got to hold my second child... but it happened and it was better than I ever could have imagined.
