Question

My husband is adamant that if we do have a boy his first name will be the same as his Portuguese dad who passed away a couple years ago.
But we agreed on a middle name and that we would always call the baby that name. It doesn’t make sense to me why his father name can’t be a middle name instead of first since we aren’t going to call the baby that. 
I just really hate the name. It’s old fashioned and can’t stop thinking of how often I would have to explain that his name is not the one we actually call him plus how confusing for the kid to be called a name and learning to write a name that isn’t the one everyone calls him.
I am going to keep trying my luck and hopefully he will agree with me. 7 months to convince him or pray for a girl 🤞

I don't see why the placement matters that much.

I’ve never understood giving a baby a first name but planning on calling them by their middle name. Definitely tell your husband how you really feel about it

My husband was named after his father, so he's gone by his middle name his whole life. There have been certain settings and legal instances where he HAS to use his first name, and it bugs him because he has literally never used that name, his first name is his dad's, not his, so he's considered legally dropping the first name.

I don’t see why it matters. Both my brother and I go by our middle names. Now, I actually correct people when they first meet me or something, my brother doesn’t really care. Tons of people I knew growing up went through the same thing. Your child won’t be the only one 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don’t see why it matters. So many people go by their middle names for various reasons. My husbands middle name is a pass down and has been a first and middle name throughout the generations, but only the original namesake went by that name.

I go by my middle name and here in the us is a hassle because everyone calls me by my first name. Also doctors appointments, credit card, insurance, travel,.. you use first name always. I have never understood the point of giving a child two names. What is the point if you will only use one?

I get your frustrations. See if you can just convince him to swap the names. I can see how it can be confusing for him as a young kid to go by a name that isn’t his legal name.

My husband name is Guillermo and he is the 3rd and I told him if we have a boy we will not name him that. My husband hates his own name. Everyone calls him Willie and also call his dad Willie. At school his teachers called him Willie and he was fine with that but I feel like my child should have it’s own identity and a name we both like

My SO has 3 names. He is called by his third name. And he loves it, because although his first two names are not that exciting, he uses his first name by people that he doesn't want to get to know or when he sells something on a second hands website etc. It is pretty convenient 🤣 His third name is Oliver, so that is his calling name. Apparently it is a Brittish thing. Over here your first name is also the calling name but in reality it really doesn't matter.
