Toddler won’t spit when brushing teeth

She’s 2.5 and we still can’t get her to understand how to spit when brushing her teeth! So she just swallows the toothpaste. We only but a tiny bit on her toothbrush.

Anyone else having this problem?

My almost 5 doesn't remember to spit every time. I just use fluoride free earthpaste so it is safe to swallow. It also doesn't have added sugar.

Note I also use the fluoride free and we do not get fluoride put on our teeth or in our water. It is a neurotoxin according to everyone other than the dental association.

My 5 year old doesn't spit either. I just continue to use the same small amount of fluoride toothpaste we've always used. It's basically the same as brushing my own teeth and spitting the excess and not rinsing. You're not supposed to rinse anyway.

Yep. He tries sometimes but definitely doesn’t get spitting yet.

My 4yo just started 🤷🏽‍♀️ I'm just glad they brush their teeth.

We asked the dentist about this and she told us she is fine if she swallows it because we use so little.
