My mother in law divorced my husbands dad some 30 years ago. My husband’s middle name is his fathers name. So when we went to name our son, who was just born last week, we wanted him to be named my husbands middle name. Seemed logical to us.

Well, my mother in law basically told us she hates the name we chose for our son, started crying and told us that we should change it. All because it’s too painful for her to hear her ex-husbands name. My husband was so hurt, I saw him cry for maybe the second time in a decade.

My MIL has very apparent issues with men and openly prefers her daughters over my husband, and prefers grand daughters to grandsons.

What should we do about this? I’m tempted to tell her what I really think of her cruel and insensitive comments. I have no intention on changing our sons name...but now it’s like she’s going to inflict this innocent child with her baggage. Help!!
