In progress birth story (three day so far process)
❗️📕Warning long story‼️
Little back ground I’m a first time mom. I have a history of controlled hypertension. With that history they planned to induce me at 39 weeks.
I want to share my birth story in current time... (Especially because I’m in the waiting phase)
On Saturday 4/17/2021 I came in for my last iron infusion and I was suppose to be called in later that day for induction.
They typically do NST( non stress test) while I do my iron infusion. They notice there wasn’t a lot of acceleration within the time needed so they decided to monitor me longer. Since there still wasn’t any change in his movements they ordered an ultrasound to check in on him. I have learn my whole pregnancy that it’s my sons show and he does his own thing on his own time lol ...
Everything was great and by the time I finished it was pretty close to the time they would call me in so they gave me the option to just stay....
Due to covid my husband wasn’t with me so I had to let him know what’s going on and I was staying... He then met me in triage and I was transfer over to maternal special care...
While there we discuss the route we would take for cervical ripening. They checked me prior and I was only 1cm and 50% effaced. They mentioned the word foley balloon and my automatic response was nope.
I REFUSED the foley balloon due to the horror stories I read on here lol.... of course I buttered it up in appropriate terms and reassured them I trust their medical expertise... but I would like to leave that as a last resort.
To me it didn’t make sense because they were going to monitor me all night anyways because of earlier episode and I didn’t want to go through the pain I heard previous moms went through. Just wasn’t having it. So they decided to have me try oral Misoprostal.
I have to take a dose every two hours and monitor continuously. Again not a problem because they were going to monitor me continuously anyways.
Started it at 5pm and took one more dose at 5am. I swore it was doing something I felt tightening of my stomach a bit of cramps here and there all night. Was so excited only to be told that I was still at 1cm and he was still pretty high.
4/18/2021 My midwife then had me revisit the idea of the foley balloon. She reassured me she would be gentle and if I wanted I can take pain medicine before or after.... my husband also was very supportive and told me he would hold my hand and comfort me the whole time. Honestly they both made me feel better about it and I gave in.
She told me that around 11 she will insert it and I should eat something and get into the right mental space until then. It was 8 so I ordered breakfast and did just that.
11 as promised she came to do it ...
guess she didn’t want me to change my mind. She checked my cervix again and I was still 1 cm but she said baby was low 60% effaced.
Honestly the insertion wasn’t too bad and she was gentle and it was done pretty quickly. I did however have cramping right away once I stood up. I also felt like I had to poop. The nurse told me it could just be the baby but I trusted my gut and I was right 😂...
after using the bathroom the cramping didn’t hurt too bad. However, as I went through the day though i had a lot of contractions with pain... bearable though.
4/19/2021
I asked for pain medicine so I can sleep around midnight. My contractions were waking me up. Turns out I might have just had a full bladder but couldn’t tell because so much is going on around there. After I used the bathroom I didn’t have ass painful of contractions.
Around 1am my midwife came in and asked me have I been tugging on the foley balloon catheter to see if it’s ready to fall out. I told her I tugged but wasn’t sure how hard. She then did it for me.
With a simple tug it popped right out.
I did have some blood that followed with little clots. She then checked me and it did it’s job it brought me to 3cm dilated -2 and I’m still 60% effaced.
When I cleaned up I had what I believe to be my bloody show and I was so excited.
She told me that since I am at 3cm I can start pitocin and they would transfer me to labor and delivery as soon as a room became available.
She thought that might have happened around that early morning time but now it’s 11:38am and no room is still available...
Around 10 she came in and explained to me they can’t start me on the pitocin in the maternal special care and I would have to be in labor and delivery... she gave me three options while I wait....
The first one is just to wait until something is available which she said would be no time soon... going home isn’t an option she said because there are moms at home also waiting to be called in so being here kind of puts me in a better position
The second option was to do the cook balloon while I wait which would bring me to maybe 5cm...
Or I can do the miso again every two hours to see if it will do something..
I decided to just wait and write in this forum instead ☺️ ...
