How do you decide which frozen embryo to transfer?

I am a week away of my FET and this is a huge milestone for me and my husband however I have to decide which embryo to transfer. I have only 2, a boy and a girl. And I want to pick up the girl but she is 4BB and the boy is 5AB, we did PGS test and they both are 5 days transfer however the embryologist recommended the boy since he is has the highest quality and already hatching... what is exactly hatching... how this determine the better quality on the embryo? Any help for you ladies that already had a transfer on a 4BB

We went with our highest grade (5BA), which happened to be a girl, however I think we would have chosen the girl even if she was lower because we wanted a girl so badly! 4BB is actually a very good embryo so I wouldn’t feel guilty about choosing that one at all. The egg has a hard shell called zona palucida. It protects the embryo until it is ready to hatch. The embryos ready to hatch or already hatched a bit are given the number 5 in front. When embryo is ready it produces enzyme that dissolves the shell surrounding it in a tiny area. Then it squizzes out of the shell and the shell is left behind. At that stage it is given number 6. Then it is ready to start implanting. The shell just protects it until it is ready to implant. 4 embryos need few more hours to get to 5 but not more than day. Both my 5AB implanted so my 4BB. They simply did not progress beyond 5th week. The grading is more subjective than the number and depends on how strict is the embryologist. They are both good. I would go with the 5AB as transfers cost money and it has slightly better chance to progress in normal pregnancy. If you have money to spare and prefer the 4BB due to gender the clinic most probably will respect your wish. We did not put much importance on gender and our were not tested. We wanted the one with higher chance.

I think that’s a totally personal choice depending on what you’re willing to risk! But I understand the desire for a specific gender. If it helps, my 4BB girl embryo stuck and I’m now 27 weeks along! Good luck!

According to my RE the grading doesn’t affect outcome rates once an embryo has been pgs tested. I also had two embryos one boy and one girl. I chose the lower graded embryo 3BB vs 4AA and the transfer was a success. You should go with whatever feels right for you.

We had 3 boys and 2 girls frozen and PGT normal. Our first fresh transfer failed, so we wanted to make sure whichever one that was transferred had the best chance at success. We went with our best one and am currently 15 weeks. We paid everything out of pocket and for us, each transfer cost us $3,600. I’d just make sure the decision you all make is the one you all feel comfortable making.

Ultimately it is up to you, I suppose if you really want a girl then you could try that embryo. I didn’t know gender screening & selection was legal in some countries, it is not allowed here in UK.
