Did we test too early?

If we tested 14 days after unprotected sex would you expect a positive test at that point if you were pregnant or could it take longer to show?

Still without period but they’re irregular anyway. We’re now 22 days post unprotected sex and I’ve felt a bit off the last couple of days and my partner joked he feels like how I was in the very early days with our 1st. The test at 14 days was negative but now I’m wondering if that might’ve been too early? I need to pick some tests up from the store so plan to do one to rule it out when I get chance to go but just curious for future reference if 2 weeks would be long enough to wait?
