Why do people always claim to be Irish but can’t even spell the names?

People always post on here saying ‘we’re Irish so we need an Irish name’ and then spell everything wrong or give wrong pronunciations? And some just post names that aren’t even Irish!?

I think the people who say that are probably americans with Irish heritage. I am american and have noticed that the vowel pronunciation is very different between  Irish names and american names.

Ancestors probably was Irish but if they are American saying that I doubt they even follow any Irish traditions

they probably want americanized names. like my nonos name was leonardo but when he moved to the states he changed it to leo because it’s more “normal”. same with last names my last name changed when we moved from italy to the states because of the pronunciation issue

As an American with mostly Irish ancestry (who also chose Irish names for my kids) it’s important to some Irish-Americans to represent our heritage because a lot of our families struggled a lot when they came here and were heavily discriminated against. So it’s sort of a pride of heritage thing, I guess. 
That being said, many Americans are used to the anglicized version of words and names, perhaps that is where the variation of spelling comes from.

I think it's to connect with a related culture. White america doesn't have a long history.
I didn't name my kids anything Irish but I see the appeal as an Irish American. As for pronouncing it wrong they are going off what they have heard.

I’m guessing a lot of these posters are from America. In America, we are very proud of where we came from. And a lot of our ancestors changed the spelling of their names when they immigrated to America, from other countries. A lot of them changed the spelling to make it easier for others to pronounce and spell their names. 
I looked it up, because I was curious. 31.5 million Americans have Irish ancestry.
