How do I show affection besides physical?

The way I show affection is by touch. I don’t care if you’re a grown ass very large man, I’ll hold you. 
My SO was severely neglected as a child and never knew physical affection. He allows it, but most of the time has no reaction to it. He also doesn’t understand it. If I don’t see him for a while I walk up to him with open arms he’s like “what. What is that. What are you doing?” And I have to say “I want to give you a hug if that’s okay.” So he hugs me. 
I want to learn his love language, and how to show affection other than physically. Hell still get hugs as long as he says it’s okay because every human being need physical touch but I wanna learn other ways that he will understand better. Any advice?

Not sure how helpful this is but doing those little for someone can be a huge caring movement. Grabbing their fav drink or snack when your out. Making their fav meal. Doing something around the house for them. My bf and I do little things like and it makes my heart melt. Its more so showing you care and love for them then actually touching, hugging, kissing etc if they are not very into that.

There’s other love languages aside from physical touch, there’s quality time, just hanging out together, doing things together, doing things that you enjoy, doing things that he enjoys, hanging out and watching a movie, that kind of thing going to the park, slow dancing in the kitchen, etc. there’s doing nice things for the person anticipating their needs that’s acts of service, often times men will complain about what’s wrong and what’s broken and what they need if we actually listen and pay attention, we can actually anticipate their needs, if his earphones break or he needs a new watch or he needs a new wallet or whatever it may be, for women acts of service are appreciated, without having to be asked to do something, like taking out the garbage, if you cook the meal he does the dishes, helping out with the kids, things that are appreciated because they went out of their way and anticipated your needs before you even had to ask. Being thoughtful and considerate, like putting the toilet seat down, putting your clothes in the hamper not in front of it, that kind of thing. There’s also words of affirmation and appreciation, often times men do not get told that they are good looking or that they look good in a suit or are appreciated for the little things that they do. The guy I’m currently with he’s big on physical touch, we are like two teenagers going at it like rabbits, but I noticed he hasn’t received words of affirmation or appreciation, he was really touched when I said it one day, I don’t do it 24 seven but maybe once a week once every two weeks, and he’s definitely in shock when I do it because I’m guessing he must’ve not had it much in previous relationships or in life in general. Little thoughtful gifts, his favorite food, his favorite snacks, remembering things that he likes, doesn’t have to be expensive gifts, but if I see a sale, on something that I know he likes, I would either pick it up or send him the advertisement that there’s a sale and if he wants to pick it up he can, I know he loves Oreo cookies so I keep them little snack size ones in the trunk of my car because if he’s having a hard day at the office, I’ll leave a couple of cookies, a little bottle of his favorite alcohol, the little things that he appreciates, mini bottles of tequila, sometimes on a holiday I’ll buy him a gift set of Johnny Walker liquor he loves Johnny Walker especially the blue label which is the most expensive, and they usually have a gift set for 40 or $80, you know what he likes, you know what he would appreciate, you’ve been with him sure for more than two weeks, you know his favorite color, you probably know what kind of music he likes, what movies he likes, if you don’t, take the time to have that kind of conversation with him and figure out what he likes and what he needs ask him what can I do to show you that I appreciate you and care for you, have that conversation, sometimes there’s a T-shirt sale at hot topic pick them up a T-shirt, Just letting him pick something that he likes, is appreciated he may not want to watch the notebook for the 50th time card but letting him pick a movie I’m sure he would appreciate that, even if you don’t like it, you suck it up because I’m sure he doesn’t like the notebook or whatever movie you like￼. Reminding him to do things, that’s a big one for men because they can only focus on one thing at a time, they are usually focused driven on their job, so little details slip through the cracks, reminding them of anniversaries are things that they need to do doctors appointments etc. hey our anniversary is coming up in two weeks, our anniversary is coming up in one week, our anniversary is on Wednesday, men tend to forget the little things in the details, otherwise they say you didn’t remind me, and obviously you’re disappointed because they forgot. Just being of service to someone is appreciated, hey I knew you were tired so I figured I’d drive so you can relax￼. Hey I knew you had a long day at work here I got you a six pack of beer, your favorite sporting event is on the TV, just relax and watch your game, hey I knew you had a hard day at work, I cook to your favorite food, I’m sure he would appreciate it just being thoughtful and putting that person’s thoughts and emotions, it’s appreciated.

I doodle my husband goofy cartoons on postits when he starts pulling away emotionally from stress. I thought they just made him smile but when i asked what hed save if the house was on fire, the family was safe and he only had time to grab one thing, he said its a box of all the doodles and notes ive left him  🥺🥺

For myself I like words of affection but my husband shows love by physical affection. Since did doesn’t like to be touched so much maybe try saying words of affection or doing little things here and there
