This is why I haven’t told a soul the name I picked for my daughter. People are so freaking weird, I swear to god. Pick your own baby name and stop copying other people as soon as they say a name they love.

We're u the one who said the name first? Obviously noone owns the right to a name.. but personally if I had told someone a name and they turned around and said that's a name they wanted to use...I would still use it..  if they had told me it was a name they were going to use and then I decided I liked it, I would feel weird using it. This is why I don't like discussing baby names with friends. I don't want to know what they want to use either.
If the other person said the name and it just so happened to be the name I wanted to use aswell..in that moment I would say that it'd also a name I want to use

Whoever is first uses the name. Whoever is second uses a variation. My name is Catherine  and the daughter of my mom's close friend is Kathleen for this reason. We are both Cathy (Kathy).

Its just a name why can’t you both use it 🤷‍♀️ my doula’s and good friends son is Caleb and my eldest sons name is Caleb I knew her before my Caleb was born. When we get together I ask the kids what do they want to be called if we need only one of them. They give an answer and that’s what we call them for that time.

Usually me n husband have a list of names options we keep to ourselves.. 3 names of girls and 3 names for boys... After knowing gender, we still hv 3 options.
If someone ever asks me what would i name my baby, i would say a random name, just some common name. Not intending to use the name, just so that they will stop asking. If a copy cat would like to use that name, good for them. 
If by the time of birth I use another name, they can’t complain... just explain (or not) that there is a last minute change of heart.
if by chance, other ppl end up using one of the 3 names we chose, we know its not their ill-intention, rather a coincidence. We have other options anyway.
That’s how we roll :) everyone is happy.
