Smelly umbilical cord stump?

Has anyone ever experienced their newborn having a foul smelling belly button? It's not an overwhelming smell but when I'm close to her stomach I can definitely smell it & it STINKS! She's only six days old & I just want to know if this is something I should worry about?

Update: I actually ended up taking her to be seen in the ER & they told me there's not an infection & that the smell is actually normal because it's literally rotting tissue. I never would of guessed I thought it was infected for sue because that smell was rancid! But her cord fell off that night so I'm relieved.

Are you cleaning it everyday? Also it's not red or looking irritated is it?

It shouldn't smell. Call your pediatrician it could be infected. Clean it with rubbing alcohol... Don't soak it but put some on a paper towel and clean around the base of the cord
