Universal sign of beginning of labor ??

FTM- due in 2 days 
I know that everyone’s water doesn’t break prior to labor so I’m curious to know which symptoms or signals are consistent with almost everyone.

I was nervous about this because my water broke first with my first baby. I had Zero signs of labor until I was 40+1. Honestly felt like period cramps but I timed them to be safe. Sure enough they were 1 min long and 5 mins apart so we went to the hospital and got admitted!

Mine was mild on off contractions for days then my waters broke and the contractions hit hard and heavy quick! That was baby number 1 though
