So with my first, I basically gave up on breastfeeding early on because he was feeding all the time and my nipples hurt and I wasn’t getting any sleep and I couldn’t pump enough. I never met with a lactation consultant because I thought what I was going through was normal. It was not! I met with several consultants this time and found out that a) I need a nipple shield because I have flat nipples, which is why my first was feeding all the time and why I was in so much pain: he couldn’t latch well! and b) I can actually produce enough milk!

Meeting with an LC was a game changer and now I can breastfeed without a shield, breastfeeding is virtually painless, and my second sleeps so much better because he’s well fed! So much so that he was

a pound over his birth weight by his 2 week appointment!

So if you’re struggling to breastfeed, please consider talking to an LC! I wish I had done so the first time around!
