Random night waking?

Is anyone else’s toddler sleeping through the night like normal but then all of a sudden will go weeks of waking up through the night? Without any change to routine he will wake up randomly just crying, falling asleep again for 5 or 10 minutes then waking back up crying again. It can go on for up to an hour or so. I won’t pick him up out of the crib but I’ll comfort him at first, give him a stuffed animal or hug through the crib and then won’t go back in again and eventually he will fall back asleep after a while..

I have no clue what it is. It happens about every three months or so for about a week or two sometimes even three. It will be consistent, every single night like clock work. I’ve now tried a night light? Anyone else in the same boat? Any advice?
