My husband’s dad is fairly sick, and my husband wants to take our 1-year-old son to see him because they think he may pass away because he refuses any medical treatments for his plethora of health conditions. Most are not contagious, but he does have pneumonia. From the research I have been doing, it sounds like there is possibility of infecting others, particularly children under age 2.

I know if we go over there, my FIL will demand to hold our son. I get that he loves him and wants to have time with him, but my heart is so uneasy about it. I know that it’s not a guarantee that our son would contract it, but there’s still a possibility. I’ve expressed my concerns to my husband, and he acts like he still wants his dad to hold our son. His family doesn’t really believe that illnesses are spread, so trying to make them understand this concern is basically impossible. If I have to, I will be the jerk who says no. My FIL already doesn’t like me, and he’s so verbally abusive to my husband, so I will take the blame if I need to.
