Being a new mom is tough
**LONG RANT**
I love my baby boy more than anything and I'm so happy he's finally here! But man, oh, man, being a new mom is tough!
My baby has been cluster feeding during the day and he will not allow us (me or husband) to put him down when he sleeps. Our son Emmett is 9 days old today and the whole "can't put him down" thing just started 3 days ago. He will sleep peacefully on our chest but as soon as we try and put him in his Dock-A-Tot or bassinet, he's good for 3-5 minutes then he goes into a meltdown and there's no soothing him. Well, a boob, that's what sooths him...but he's literally eating every 30 minutes!
I do not disturb his feedings, meaning I let him eat on one boob till he's done or passes out. I offered the other boob if he stays awake just in case he didn't get much (left side isn't producing as much as the right) his latch seems just fine, I'm not in any pain when he nurses or anything. Even so, I have an appointment with a lactation consultant on Monday just in case.
My MIL was over yesterday trying to help us out but she kept trying to put him in the Dock-a-Tot when ever he fell asleep. I had to tell her to stop, just hold him! My husband and I were trying to get a nap in but that's hard when all we hear is crying and we have to go through the soothing process all over again.
The cluster feeding is exhausting mentally and physically. I am sorry to say it but, I can't stand just sitting around attached to my baby all day long! I still want to be able to do something normal like wash dishes or gold a basket of laundry. Not just sit, feed, sooth a crying baby, feed again, sir while he sleeps, feed again and again and again. I am also trying to start pumping so we don't have to supplement with formula anyone (yes, I need my sanity! I literally cannot sleep sometimes because he feeds that often so supplementing is a must) but can't get more than a 10 minute pump session in before the baby roots around for me again.
I'm just exhausted and overwhelmed. People are trying to help but it's hard with a cluster feeding baby😫 I hope this phase is over real soon.
