How do y’all know how much you’re dilated?

FTM here (clearly 😂) I have no idea what any of this means, but I’m assuming at some point your OB will check how dilated you are? I’m 36+6, so just curious when that will happen?

It's pointless to get checked unless you are in active labor. You can go from 0-10 within hours, or you can stay at 4cm for weeks even months.

My ob started checking at 36 weeks but I know some doctors will wait until 37 weeks.

I wasn’t checked until I went in to the hospital in labor! Full disclosure I thought it hurt like a bitch, so glad I didn’t have it done any sooner.

I was offered a check at my 37 week appointment, but declined as I didn’t feel like it was necessary. I have another appointment on Monday and will probably request a check just out of curiosity.
You can be dilated a few centimeters for weeks without going into labor so it doesn’t mean much, but I’m feeling a lot of pelvic engagement and I just wanna see if it’s actually doing anything

some doctors dont check. but probably 38 weeks possibly. i think my midwife offered at 36 weeks. 
just ask next time you have an appt!
