Job interview?? Should pregnancy be brought up?

Question

I am 15 weeks and have a job interview for part time. Idk if i should tell them if I am pregnant or not.. part of me wants too because of maternity leave but I am nervous they wont hire me or find another reason not too. Have you been through this? What would you do?

It’s illegal for them to ask and you’re not obligated to disclose it. Personally, I wouldn’t mention it at all. You can ask about maternity leave after they extend an offer of employment.

My husband hired a girl who was pregnant and she didn’t tell him which was fine. But she literally took her two month leave and then all her vacation days consecutively only a month after being hired and screwed him over completely. And he didn’t technically have grounds to let her go but his business suffered. So if you don’t tell, that’s fine, but don’t take advantage of your employer. Be ready to be helpful and responsible and let them know as soon as you’re hired.

I definitely wouldn’t tell them. Technically it’s illegal to discriminate against pregnant women, but it happens all the time. You can talk about maternity leave after you’ve been hired.

If you want to be sure you don’t get the job, go ahead and tell them! Sad but true, no company is going to hire and train a staff member who will go on maternity leave in 6months unless you’re interviewing for a temp job. I wouldn’t say a word that early on in pregnancy

I’m going to comment from a different perspective. I am a Manager and I do a lot of hiring in my position. As an employer, we always appreciate a person being honest about what is going on in their personal life. I can speak for my company and myself only but I would rather know upfront and come up with a plan that mutually benefits both of us as opposed to hiring you and being caught completely off guard when you decide to tell me that you’re pregnant. Most companies will be more willing to work with you to accommodate your needs if you are honest rather than feeling like they are manipulated. I know it’s scary to potentially not be hired because you are pregnant but I would ask myself if I would really want to work for an employer who wouldn’t hire me for that reason anyways.

I wouldn’t tell them until after you get hired because they will decide to not hire you and come up with another reason get your foot in the door once you do that then let them know after that they can’t fire you because you are pregnant. That’s what I would do.

I wouldn’t tell them.  A lot of places instantly think “maternity leave and I have to do this hiring process all over again!” And find reasons to choose others over you, whether it’s legal or not.

U don't have to tell them and u have to work somewhere at least a year to get maternity leave,u can't just start a job and 5months later (for ex) just take maternity leave

I didn’t .. waited till after orientation and training especially since I’m working for a security company but they were totally ok with it anyways.
