Certain number of IUIs before IVF?

Did your doctor require you to do a certain number of IUIs before allowing you to move to IVF, not having anything to do with insurance?
My insurance doesn’t cover anything so everything is out of pocket. They had mentioned me doing 3 IUIs before meeting with my doctor, but after 2 unsuccessful IUIs with my uterine lining getting thinner each month, I really don’t want to spend the money to do another. I feel like it has such a low success rate and is still expensive. While I know it’s way cheaper than IVF, IVF at least has a much higher success rate.

I think it’s completely reasonable for you to just ask to move on to ivf. I did a lot of iui cycles trying to avoid ivf and I wish I had just moved on sooner.

We could have gone straight to IVF if we wanted. I was 36, but have had pregnancies in the past with another partner, and all my tests were good. Our primary diagnosis is low morphology (0-2%, where 30% is the “normal” range). We opted to do a couple of IUIs and see if my husband’s sperm parameters improved (low morphology), as he had made lifestyle improvements and started vitamins since his last SA. The SA actually got worse, so we prepped for IVF in conjunction with our 2nd IUI, and rolled straight into an IVF cycle from there (which was successful).

I said my doctor that we have been trying naturally for 3 yrs. She asked how soon you want a baby. We replied ASAP. She suggested us to go directly with IVF. We started the process in July'20 and had my first FET on May'21.

My Dr was only going to try 4 cycles before ivf .

My doctor suggested IUI but I said no.  My insurance doesn’t cover anything either so I didn’t want to waste my time or money. But we had been trying almost 18 months so it was time to bust out the big guns haha
