How hard is it to get a prescription for anti-anxiety meds?

I’m going through a divorce and getting out of an abusive relationship. It’s just so stressful. I’ve been on clonopin before with no adverse side effects. And I would only take it maybe a few times a week as needed. Now my psychiatrist won’t prescribe them anymore to any of his patients. Any suggestions cause I know people sell them on the streeet and crap but I haven’t ever done that nor will I. Thanks !

It doesn’t sound like you have a true medical reason for benzos which are extremely addictive. A stressful period in your life is not equivalent to an actual diagnosis of chronic anxiety. So no, I would not take benzos for a short stressful period in my life.

It’s pretty common to get prescriptions for depression or anxiety from a GP. That’s where I’d start if I were you.

as mentioned before, ask about busiprone. not addictive and super easy to wean off. if it's not an everyday thing but just something you'd want "as needed" then try hydroxyzine. not addictive at all, can take it for years and randomly stop and won't have any withdrawals.

Ask what they will prescribe. My sister and I were prescribed hydroxyzine, which comes with a lot less risk of addiction. It’s a good thing your old doctor isn’t jumping right to benzos.

My pcp prescribed some for me. I had to follow up with the psych department to get more than the few to tide me over. There was a strong suggestion for therapy to learn coping skills, not just a quick drug fix.

I used buspirone and it did great but you have to take it every day for it to be effective. I didn't have any withdrawal coming off it either.
