ALASKA LIVING?

Question

My husband and I are wanting to move to Alaska, specifically the Juneau area. Does anyone on here live there that could share some advice? 
We plan on visiting to take a look around before moving. We also need jobs before we move obviously. We have 2 kids and one on the way. So we want to be as prepared as possible. Anything you can think of would be appreciated.

I traveled to Alaska and went all over... Sitka, Metlakatla, Juneau, Ketchikan... this was the middle of the spring for them.
To my surprise, they have mosquitos the size of small birds that can give you poison ivy-like rashes when they bite you. So... Lots of bug repellent and lots of calamine lotion. Went through a whole bottle while I was up there.

I lived in alaska going between sitka and anchorage for about 9 months on a work contract. I personally loved Alaska but biggest thing I would say is make sure you could handle the weather/climate. Even if you are used to like Chicago or New York weather it is very very different. It is a very different culture for many depending on where you are from too. Also it is isolated...not just from the states but from parts of the state itself. The same typw.of thing happens in areas of alaska as it would living on an island. You may be isolated and keep a small area you can access unless you have a plane or dog sled. I would move back in a second...I loved it, especially Sitka. But it definitely is not for everyone and it is a very different feel and life style. And yes winters can get rough for some. It is VERY cold, it is short day light, but it is beautiful.

I have no advice! My husband and I moved across the country last year and picked our current state kind of randomly. I looked into Alaska first! So cool! I hope you guys love it
