Is it child abuse to have constant toxic arguing with your child’s other parent in front of them?

The amount of ptsd I have says yes. It started with arguing with my dad and then bled into treating us like shit.

Children look up to their parents as examples of how they will behave when they’re adults too. Having constant *toxic* arguments in front of them will tell them that this behavior is acceptable. Depending on how toxic it is (such as if there’s name-calling, screaming, physical aggression, etc) it could cause emotional distress in the child and yes, could be abuse. 
Children need to be able to witness healthy discussions and resolutions of arguments as an example that conflict can be solved without anger or violence.

I think it qualifies as emotional abuse, yes. The occasional argument is one thing. Constant toxic arguing is another.

YES. My parents did this, both sets of them. The constant screaming matches and cussing each other out was miserable as a child. It gave me so much anxiety and I thought it was normal for parents to be like that. They made the whole household miserable and none of us looked forward to going home. It also puts so much emotional baggage on your child cause you hear what they’re arguing about and most of the time it was about not being able to afford the children they made. I refuse to argue in front of our children because of it, disagreements are fine but screaming matches, no.

I can confidently say that all my parents screaming and yelling at us and each other has really caused me to scream and yell too. It has more of an effect on me than spanking ever had. 
It’s more so emotional abuse and mentally traumatizing and it effects my relationship with my husband and my kids.

Abuse to me is intentional harm. Arguing with someone is harmful but it’s not necessarily intentional. The child can become traumatized from it but I don’t think the parent was wanting that to happen or was trying to harm them.

Child abuse? Eh… that’s a fine line. But it’s definitely emotionally abusive and will undoubtedly cause childhood trauma. That’s before even considering the long lasting psychological effects that will bleed into their future relationships.

I would say emotional trauma. Kids look up to their parents. If you're constantly fighting and yelling they're gonna think that's what they should be doing now and when they're older. They'll think thats good to treat someone else like that and it's not. If you want a good environment for your children you need to go to therapy and learn to stop yelling and not be fighting constantly. That's not healthy for anyone

It’s just the kid observing dysfunction. But many people are dysfunctional in one way or another. If you start calling this abuse, where do you draw the line?

My parents weren’t the best communicators and it has affected my little brothers and I. They refuse to acknowledge that their toxic behavior has caused some affect to how we communicate, and to simply get over it.
