39 weeks pregnant and offered a membrane sweep?

Question

I haven’t shown any signs of labor so my midwife offered to do a membrane sweep at 40 weeks (next week). I’m a FTM so not familiar with all of these inducing procedures. Should I do it? Has anybody had success after getting one done? Thanks in advance!

You can wait until close to 42 weeks and to be honest from my own experience stretch and sweep or any other induction method just leads to other cascading interventions.
You have plenty of time still and if you and baby are healthy then there isnt any rush :) 
In the end its up to you but your body made that baby and your baby will come when its ready regardless :)

I mean it wouldn’t hurt to have one done. It’s uncomfortable, and the results are mixed.

I was offered to have it done at 39 weeks, but my cervix was closed and long. OB said it has 50% efficacy when it comes to bringing on labour within the next couple days. It's worth a try in my opinion 🤷‍♀️

I think it depends on where you’re at when they do it. I was 4cm and the doctor could stretch that to 5 and my waters were bulging. He did a very quick sweep and I had my son 12 hours later 🤷‍♀️. I don’t think it’ll put you in to labor if your body isn’t ready for it.

With my first, I had the sweep done at 38+3 and my water broke 24 hours later. This time I had 2 sweeps, one at 38+4, lost my mucus plug but that’s it. Asked for another at 39+4, water broke 6 hours later and she was here less than 24 hours after the sweep. I was also 3.5 cm and 80% effaced.

I haven’t had one yet this time. I’ll be 38 weeks on Wednesday. So only have one experience so far
