Thrush and Preemie BF

Randi

Hi everyone,

FTM here and baby and I are both about to start treatment for yeast. She's only 8 days old and was a few days premature (born at 36+2, 6 lb 6 oz) so breastfeeding has already been challenging.. We were told not to EBF since she didn't have the fat stores to fall back on, so we have been latching and practicing for 5-10 minutes each feeding and then we supplement with formula or pumped milk while I pump.

My nipples are on fire now with the yeast when she tries to latch, but she's been very fussy about latching lately and I can't get her to stay latched anymore. She also has a yeast diaper rash that we just started Nystatin on. Her mouth doesn't have any sores, but doc wants us to start an oral anti-fungal as well. They've prescribed an anti-fungal for me, have asked us both to start probiotics, I have to boil pump parts after every feeding and wash bras, towels, etc in hot water and vinegar.

Is there anything else anyone recommends? I've heard it can be extremely difficult to get rid of yeast, and I'm already struggling getting the hang of breastfeeding with her being a preemie. My mental health is hanging on by a thread, I feel so defeated. I need this to resolve asap, I don't want to just pass it back and forth for weeks...

Thank you!
