Car seat sleeps?

How come you can't let a baby sleep in the carseat but you can take a baby on long road trips where they sleep in the carseat? Not advocating either way just genuinely curious. Also when does the risk of positional asphyxiation go down? TIA!

Car seats when installed in the base (infant seat) has the correct incline for the risk of positional asphyxiation to be less. BUT that is when babe is also strapped in correctly. That should always always be done. When an infant seat is of the base and out of the car, it has more of a higher incline than what the base does, making it higher for suffocation. Huge reason for why you have to stop every 2hrs for stretch outs on long car rides. Especially with newborns. 
Positional asphyxiation risk will always be there, can be there with toddlers also. It’s a silent death. Extremely high for newborns and infants that can’t support their head and or sit up on their own. I’ve seen cases of 1yr olds die of positional asphyxiation. 
Correct car seat installment, and correct strapping of baby in seat will help decrease those chances. 
But never ever ever let baby sleep in the car seat when not in the car.

You’re actually not supposed to have a baby in a car seat for more than 2 hours in a 24 hour period.

The car seat is positioned at a different angle in the car than it is once removed.  It’s not recommended to keep baby in the car for more than 2 hours without taking them out and giving their bodies a break either though.  I drive 4 hours regularly but have always stopped halfway to do a diaper change, nurse, and let baby stretch out and play a bit

As stated. Installed it is at a proper incline, once removed you risk positional asphyxiation. Also you need to take baby out every 2 hours anyways. We had a 5 hour trip once that quickly turned into a 9 hour trip. Stopped about every hour and a half. Took her out. Fed and changed her. Just let her move about for a bit.
