How often should grandparents take their grandkids for the day? Parents do not need a babysitter

How often should grandparents take grandkids for the day? I am off of work with a baby and enjoying spending time with my children. Grandma wants to take my two year old for the day every week. Not offering to help but just wants to take her. Just curious how often most grandparents get to have their grandkids when it’s not necessary on parents part.

I didn't vote because I agree with everyone saying it's very situational.
As for my toddler no one takes her anywhere except her dad or I. If someone is watching her for us it's at our house. We typically see my mom once a week or every other weekish. My MIL usually comes to "help out" like once a month. If they want to visit they can come here and stay here. No one is entitled to time with my child other than her dad and me. Start saying no, you can offer a different day/time if you want to kind of lessen the blow if you think the person is going to get mad but at the end of the day it's your child and you get to choose where they go and with who.

I didn’t vote because I think it has a lot to do with your relationship with the grandparents. My parents watch my daughter once a week, but it’s because I’m working, which I know isn’t the question. As a result of them watching her once a week while I work they don’t really take her any other time. They’ve watched her here and there for me to go to an appointment or something, but never taken her just cause. Once a week seems reasonable to me if you want a break, taking care of little ones is hard! But if you don’t want the break and it’s bothering you I would just tell her no and make it once a month or something.

My mother in law takes my 20month old once a week to give my work from home husband a break. She will probably want to take both of them once baby brother comes once a week still she went part time at her job so she can help. I am truly blessed to have amazing in laws that help us in so many ways.

My mother in law tried to do the same thing with me. I work 3 days a week, my daughter then goes to daycare, MIL never helped out with anything but it was always fine with me, suddenly she retires and demands we let her have her granddaughter once a week every week. I saw no reason and declined, instead I offered to make Sunday lunch for everyone, they could visit every Sunday, spend time with her and even take her out on their own in the afternoon. Thought it was a nice offer, MIL decides she has better things to do on the weekend and only shoes up once every two to three months.... Fine with me too. 🙂 In the end you should decide what is best for you and your little one, no should always be a valid answer, if it is what you want.

Im fine with my parents asking to take our little unless we already have something planned. But I think it’s really dependent on your relationship and whether you want them to have a relationship. As the parent, it’s always ok for you to say no, and you don’t need to justify it. No is a full sentence.
