Gary the chicken update

li

So almost 3 months ago I put 8 chicken eggs in an incubator but only 2 were fertile, and two hatched, but one was sickly and sadly did not make it.

Baby animals of any kind do not do well alone, so for the first 4 weeks of his life he lived inside with me. I carried him around like a human baby. I have chickens outside and there’s such a thing as a pecking order. I spent about a week introducing him to the flock, and then I put him outside to roam free with all of them.

Turns out, he.. is actually a she. As you can tell, but Gary is still Gary lol. I wanted a roo, sorry Gary 😅

So.. SHE lives outside now, and is totally on good terms with the rest of the flock. But really doesn’t want to join them and roam around in the group like they do. She wants to live on my back porch, and follows me around every single day. So I’ll just be out walking with my dog, and my chicken.

My neighbors watch me when I’m outside because they see a single young chicken following me and they laugh about it together. I know them so I know they just find the chicken funny.

Funny fact, so one day when Gary still lived inside my house, he was in his pen and I left my door open to let cool air in. Gary disappeared. I figured she went outside so I looked everywhere and got super sad about it.

THE NEXT DAY I FOUND GARY INSIDE MY COUCH. I had to CUT this chicken out of my couch that now has a huge hole in it. That’s when I realized it was time for Gary to go live outside and be a free chicken lmfao 🥴

Gary also comes to her name so I can’t and won’t change it lol
