IUD issues: Warning gross TMI

Hi, I have an urgent question for anyone that knows about IUDs. I have the copper iud. I have had since March of last year. I have had no trouble with it except really heavy periods.

Within the past few days, I’ve been in a lot of pain. I’m due for my period in three days. I check my strings once a month with a gloved hand. I just checked them and they are super long now. I can also feel what seems to be the plastic bottom of the iud protruding through the side of my cervix. I also have a rust/ peach color discharge.

I’m trying to decide if I should go to the hospital or wait to see my gynecologist. Any help would be appreciated. I don’t want to overreact but I’m panicked and don’t know what to do.
