Feeding question ??

My baby is 4 days old and I was told no matter even if he’s sleeping to wake him up to feed every 2-3 hrs. He’s gone a long 4hr stretch before due to him sleeping but only once and the nurse said to make sure I wake him. What are you mamas thoughts on this??? It seems to make feeding time a lot more difficult especially at night.

ABSOLUTELY wake baby to feed at 4days old. Blood sugars can easily drop if gone without eating for too long. 
Please don’t listen to the ones that said “ I didn’t wake my babies, or whatever” a 4day old has to has to has to eat every 2-3hrs. 
Diaper changes, undress, tickle the neck, chin, back, feet. Do whatever you can to wake baby.

At that young you need to wake to feed if they aren't waking themselves to do so. After I gave birth we had to stay in the hospital an extra 2 days and I would often let my son sleep ( mainly because I thought that's what he needed and there was confusion from nurses) and because I wasn't feeding him every 2-3 hours he lost 10% of his body weight. The whole second week of his life we had to do weight checks every other day at the doctor's. Once you get the ok from the pediatrician that your LO is gaining weight good then you can go longer stretches between feedings.

I never woke my kids up. But they gained their weight quick. Well my first gained much better then my second

I’ve read that once the baby is back to there regular birth rate you can let them sleep until they wake up to feed.. which is what I was going to do with my little one but this little boy would wake up every 3 hours himself and so he never gave me the chance.

I woke up our baby until the pediatrician told us it was ok not to (this was about two weeks). 
That being said our baby hadn’t passed his brith weight yet, and was sleepy from some mild jaundice. So I definitely felt that was best for him and that’s what our dr said!
Maybe you could call your babies pediatrician and ask?

My son is 16 days old, and I have been doing every 3 hours since he was born. (A little sooner if he seems to be hungry or wakes himself up.) 
I felt super guilty that first week waking him up to eat. He definitely did NOT want to be disturbed while he was sleeping…. But, I just told myself it had to be done. After a couple days, it became much easier.

I'm 4 weeks pp and at my first pediatric apt my doctor told me the same thing. I was letting her sleep 4 to 5 hrs because well its sleep and she said 3 hr max between feedings. I started doing it and she gained her weight quickly.. it was very hard to wake her up to feed as she just kept sleeping despite getting her naked or changing her etc but now she's a month old and goes 4 hrs between feedings max.

I was told to wake baby for a feed until baby reaches birth weight. Afterwards i personally wouldn't let bub go longer than 5 hours until she was about 2 months old.
