Thoughts? Chance of progressing?

Question

I went for a dating scan today - LMP makes me 8w 4d but due to PCOS I knew there would be a good chance I wouldn’t be that far and I’ve no idea when I ovulate to try and roughly guess.
The lady scanning me noted the gestational sac measured 6w 3D - there was a yolk sac present, but for the fetal pole/embryo she measured it as 1.7mm and at the side of that it says “OOR” (out of range if I had to guess? And no heartbeat detected at this point). So my dating at the moment seems to be going off the gestational sac. 
I go back in two weeks for a re-scan but has this happened to anyone else and ended with a positive outcome? Just trying to find a little bit of hope 🤞🏼 
I’m confused that the pregnancy weeks are being based on the gestational sac at the moment - could I just be earlier than 6w 3D and in with a chance of seeing progression next time?

Tech here! I’ll start with the bottom line here: only time will tell. The waiting is hard! But it’s also necessary to really see what’s going on.
That said, here’s some general info that may help in the meantime:
Gestational sac measurements are NOT an accurate way to date. They are VERY much approximated and are often off by a week or more, even early on. Fetal pole measurements, on the other hand, are super accurate in early scans. Within a couple days at most. A fetal pole measuring 2 mm is considered about 5w5d. This is why docs will (usually, with rare exceptions) never use a gestational sac measurement to date a pregnancy, officially. They want that fetal pole measurement because so they can be as accurate as possible. You’re very close to that 2 mm, but not quite there. That’s also (in most cases) the earliest that heartbeat can be seen on vaginal ultrasound AND really the smallest measurement that can be taken accurately using ultrasound (2 mm is super tiny). The fact that you know you have PCOS and aren’t sure of your ovulation with a gestational sac measurement that is somewhat near what that fetal pole would date (probably right around 5 weeks or so) is encouraging. There are no guarantees in any pregnancy, but, if I were in your situation, I would definitely say this isn’t a cause for concern right now. Just a wait and see. Best of luck to you!

I'm going through something similar .I went for a scan last week when I should be 8+2 and had same ,sac ,yolk and embreyo but no heartbeat .I'd had 2 scans before and progression each time but was really sad to not hear heartbeat .another scan next week but I'm not hopeful ,wish I knew others that had been through this  . I think my embreyo/fetal pole was around 4mm.when is your next scan?

My understanding is that a fetal pole should measure 4-5 mm at 6 weeks. If your gestational sac measurement is off from your fetal pole measurement, I would say it’s probably not a viable pregnancy. But I am not an expert. Will you get to talk to your doctor about it?
