Is this normal? Major sleep issue!

My husband I started our baby’s (3mo) bedtime routine at 7:30pm with a bath like we usually do. We got him in his footie pajamas, and fed and rocked him to sleep. He slept on my lap for a while and we transferred him to the crib. This normally works and he sleeps for a few hours before waking up to eat again. Well tonight chaos happened. Every time we laid him down in his crib he started fussing or crying within minutes. We rocked and fed and diaper changed and nose frida and white noise and then did it all again and again. He wouldn’t even fall asleep in my arms in the rocker. Finally after hours of this, at midnight my husband and I gave up and went back out to the living room to let our 3 month old play on his play mat in the middle of the night. He is WIDE AWAKE! What the F is this? Is it leap 4? The full moon? Are we terrible parents? What the hell is happening? Help!!!
