Is it weird for older men to give compliments on your appearance/clothing at work?

Just started a new job and some of the older men have made comments on my clothing/appearance. Some comments I thought nothing of, but some were just strange or made me uncomfortable. I’ve never received compliments from an older man before so it just seemed very odd.

I think it’s inappropriate for anyone at work to be commenting on your attire unless its ur friend saying ooo u look good girl or ur boss saying hey sorry that’s inappropriate. Otherwise we arent kids in high school with cool new shoes!  Leave me and my clothing alone

I think it depends on the compliments. Anything about your figure our body would be weird and obviously anything with sexual undertones. But I don't think saying they like your shirt/shoes/other clothing item is weird or saying your hair looks pretty today is weird. But if you feel uncomfortable with ANY kind of compliments, even ones others may not see as sexual or creepy, it is okay to say you feel uncomfortable or ask them not to comment on your appearance.

Compliments on your outfit, shoes, jewelry, lipstick, etc. are totally normal. Compliments about your figure are inappropriate. Something like "you look pretty today," would depend really on their tone, their gaze, and the type of relationship you have with that person.

I guess it depends on the type of comments. Since you said some of them made you uncomfortable I’m going to assume it was more than “I like your shirt”. If they’re saying anything like “nice tits” or making comments on your body, report them to HR for sexual harassment.

I think we got to be careful where the lines is with this kind of stuff. If it was something like "I like your outfit" or "I like your hair" or "that color is nice on you" or that compliments you....comments like that aren't weird or inappropriate to me. If he is saying "nice figure" or "you look hot"  then, yes, those are inappropriate comments. 
It's so interesting that I came across this question because we have this guy at work who has gorgeous green eyes...they look like the emerald gem stone. A lot of the women constantly tell him how gorgeous his eyes are & when he leaves the room, they talk about his body. I never participate. I was sitting there thinking to myself, if he ever felt uncomfortable or wanted to go to HR, I wonder how that would work out for him.

It is weird. When I worked at a liquor store older men were always trying to flirt/complimenting me/insinuating things. I also always noticed how they would act differently according to wether I wore makeup or not. Super uncomfortable. And then you see them come in with there wives and they act like they’ve never seen you before, it’s just so uncomfortable. And they know they’re wrong for it.

Pretty subjective. If you got a new haircut and looked extra nice someone being all “oo you look great today!” is no big thing. If its a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, then id talk to hr
