Sudden Rupture of Membranes

I woke up the morning of 6/28 and overall just felt run down. Had a achy back and maybe some cramping, felt like a stomach ache. Told my husband I was going to nap to see if it got any better. He woke me up when he left for work, I decided to get up to start cleaning my house when I felt a huge gush. I couldn’t believe it was my water (entire underwear were soaked), so went to the bathroom were I had fluid running down my leg. I decided to call my husband who was already at work, 40 minutes away. He turned around and came home to pick me up. We arrived at the hospital two and a half hours later and I was admitted on 6/28 at 5:45pm. Didn’t make any changes so around 1:45am we started Pitocin. Contractions were somewhat there but nothing horrible. Around 11:45am I begun active labor and requested the epidural, which by the way is a life saver. Used a peanut ball for hours to get baby to switch positions and look towards my back. Around 5:48pm I was complete and ready to push. I began pushing at 6:05pm and baby was born at 9:45pm.

Baby was born with cord around his neck, had his hand by his head which caused him to get stuck, and swallowed a bunch of fluid on the way out. He didn’t let out a good cry, so once my husband cut his cord they took him to the warmer to suction him where he let out the biggest cry ever and that’s when I started bawling.

Maverick Scott was born 6/29 at 9:45pm.

I labored for 30 hours and 15 minutes and pushed for 3 hours and 40 minutes, without a break.

Initially we were told his weigh was 7 pounds 14 ounces, but found out at his 24 hour check that the scale in the delivery room was wrong and he was weighing in at 8 pounds 6 ounces. So we are guessing he was closer to 8 pounds 10 ounces at birth! No one thought he was going to be much over 7 pounds, so it was a shock.

We ended up having to stay an extra night due to baby being jaundice, but we have been home for a few days and thriving. Today was his due date and I’m so glad I got an extra week of loving him. 🤍

I was absolutely terrified of labor and delivery, but ladies, it is so worth it. I would do it all over again!
