Birth story
Better late than never! My son William was born January 11th 2021.
We checked into the hospital about 12pm on January 10th because I thought my water was leaking, any moms I had asked were positive that it wasn’t because it wasn’t a steady trickle or anything so it was probably leaking for a few days before I went in because I just kept telling myself it was fine 😅 so we went in and they did a strip test and it was negative, so she checked how much I was dilated etc and ended up checking whatever fluid from that and it showed up positive! So the doctor came and checked to confirm and after that they put a tube in me that wrapped around my uterus ( I think that’s correct lol ) to monitor my contractions closer, they were spaced out and not close together yet. Position wise he was still at a -1 when we went in and I believe I was dilated to a 3 and about 80% effaced.
At around 4:45 pm January 10th my water completely broke ( no one told me a gush of water comes out with every contraction 🤣 ) and active labor started! My contractions were about 2 minutes apart all night and I had really bad back labor. I had some pain medicine in my IV off an on during the night to try and help. 15 hours in I couldn’t take the pain anymore and ended up getting an epidural ( I was dilated to an 8 at that point ) and then labored for about 10 more hours before our son was born.
They had me use the peanut ball to try to get him to drop down some more and to try to get him to switch positions ( since I had back labor they figured he wasn’t facing the right direction )
I was dilated to a 10 and still wasn’t ready to push yet because he hadn’t really dropped down enough, i think position wise he was at a +1 or +2 when they had me start pushing. I ended up pushing for about 3 hours and ended up having bruises on my legs from holding my legs 😅 my husband would like gently talk to me and im like okay dude you gotta yell at me because this one doctor would come in and yell at me like a football coach and that’s when I’d make progress 😂 but eventually it got to the point where his heart rate was dropping during my contractions. Another doctor came in with about 4 or 5 nurses and asked if I minded to push while he pulled 😅 they ended up doing an episiotomy ( not fun ) and used forceps to get him out, he had little bruises on his head. He ended up being sunny side up & his shoulder got stuck coming out which ended up with a nurse having to push on my belly to help get him out and I just remember blood splattering all over my face and pillow from it 😬😬😬 But finally my son was born at 6:13 pm January 11th 8 LB 4 oz !! 26 hour labor with 3 hours of pushing!
When he was born they put him on my chest for maybe 0.2 seconds before taking him away ( all I could see was this big cone head 😂 ) and then were working on him to try to get him to breathe ( felt like forever ) they ended up taking him away to put him on oxygen and my husband had to take a picture of him to show me what he looked like! I finally got to see him almost 3 hours later 🥺 I love my chunky guy so much. Even though it was tough it was SO worth it. He is my best buddy and I love him more than words can ever explain. 🥺
here is a picture of him when he was born and him now ( 2 days shy of 6 months, he now weighs 21 lbs 2 oz! )
