Teachers refusing to use chosen pronouns
Should teachers be required to use and respect a students chosen pronouns or name? (Example: non-binary persons, or transgender person requesting to be referred by their opposite pronouns of their sex assigned at birth, or their chosen name). Should there be consequences for teachers who refuse? Should teachers be allowed to refuse for “religious beliefs”? There was a case a couple years back in Houston of a teacher from a private school being fired for refusing to refer to a transgender child by their chosen name and pronouns. She attempted to sue the school since she claimed it was against her religious beliefs. (Not sure how the case was concluded).
