Name your child a name that’s already taken in the family?

My husband and I have a really hard time agreeing on names. One name we like is actually a cousins kids name. We see them on holidays and sometimes quite a few more times throughout the summer. Would you stay away from choosing a name already in the family? I don’t want our cousins to feel weird if we announce a name that is the same as their child…

My husband's family are descendants of John Marshall so there are like a million Johns in the family.

My Mom and her brother copied each other’s kids names twice 🤣 so I wouldn’t think anything of picking the same name as a cousin. Not sentimental or meaningful names either, they are just random names that they both liked.

My brothers name is Mike. My dads sister named her son a few years later Mike and my brother has resented it his whole life.

There are so many Mary/John/Michaels in my family. It was never a big deal.

Make them different middle names and you can use it to differentiate. I had a cousin with my name. It wasn’t a big deal. I went by a nickname around them.
