What do you do when you can't agree on names?
Long post, sorry, but I need advice lol
I'm not even pregnant yet (still going through fertility treatments). My husband and I started discussing names while we dating in high school (almost 10 years ago). We finally chose a girl name a few years ago. He has always said he wants his first son to be named Leon. I don't love it, but he is dead set. We are officially in the tww today, so we were talking about names earlier. I said I had a new boy name to throw in the pot. Hudson. I love it. It's the first boy name I have ever really fallen in love with. I struggle with even finding a boy name I like, let alone LOVE.
My husband shot it down so fast. His excuse for shooting this one down was the origin. He was talking about how any name that ends with "son" means "son of __". So Hudson is "son of hud" Johnson is "son of John". So he's rambling on about this and how that's all he can think of when he hears a "...son" name. I'm like, sooooo?? I never knew about the origin thing and I'm sure most people don't. He literally knows everything about everything though, so he always comes up with some ridiculous reason to veto any name. It's so frustrating because he can't just think of a name as a name. He has to think of the origin, other people with the name (like a celebrity no one has heard of from the '40s or something ridiculous like that).
And then he brings up Leon, and how that's going to be our son's name. I remind him I don't love it. I'm sure his love for the name plays a role in him vetoing every other name too.
How do you deal with this? Obviously we still have time, even if I do find out I'm pregnant in 2 weeks. But with the way name picking is going for us, it's going to be so stressful to try and pick a name while I'm pregnant and we have this clock ticking.
