Gifts and hinting

Ok I have a problem asking for gifts like I always feel really weird doing it but I know my bf would rather me just say wht I want than having him guess for like birthdays and stuff. he’s usually really straight forward with what he wants. how can I get past feeling bratty or something?? do u guys just tell them?
