Why is it bad for babies to watch TV?

It changes the nuero pathways in the baby’s brain. It makes it hard for babies/kids to be excited or happy by other games that don’t have all the bells/whistles/fast paced movement. Screen time isn’t recommended until kids are 2, and even then it’s only 15 mins a day.

I don’t think it’s so much the tv as it is the things they’re NOT doing while they watch tv. As long as a kid has equal time doing constructive things, connecting with people, etc-I really don’t think it’s a problem. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you google it, you’ll come across a ton of studies about it.  Many people choose to do tv regardless of what the studies say and don’t want to believe them but you should definitely be educated on it at least and make a decision from there.  My almost 2 year old has never watched tv but we have done FaceTime with family

I think it’s all about balance…we have the TV on a lot for background noise and our daughter doesn’t watch most of it. She plays with her toys and draws but from a young age, we created balance and interacted with her. She spends quite a bit of time outside whenever possible too. Shows she does like are limited to one or two a day.

The brain can't process what the eyes are seeing before age of 2. There is sience there (I don't remember the title- I watched a documentary on youtube). So they "watch" but they don't comprehence and the brain is overwhelmed. 
After 2- the issue is the tv is "turning off" imagination and thinking- it's getting brain to be lazy... and it's much easier so the children don't do stuff (even after watching tv) because they wait for someone to do it for them.
The advantages are only a mirage- it's impossible to learn language without talking to someone (interaction), the child can learn a lot more about the world by playing with a stick than by watching some "clever" video.
Yes, they repeat chinese words or sing in swedish- but it's just repeating without a lot of knowledge/comprehence/base for really using a language.
And yes they will call a square "square" but they won't have time to learn much more important cause-effect or probability or volume/capacity (and the square they can easily learn in a sec in any other way).
It's also bad for children when the parents think the tv is ok and so they don't interact with a child enough.. again- there is science behind it. When people have a tv on at home- they don't speak so much with the baby as they would without the screen on. And the baby's language is developing based on interacting with other people.

It interrupts the connection between the baby and his surroundings. It "breaks" the human connection between baby and mom/dad/sitter/... 
But honestly we watch tv and so does our kid 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Nope! Everyone parents differently but my son loves tv. Of course do a balance of things. Not just 24/7 tv

My daughter is very interested in it, but we try not to have her watch it. A study I read recently said under two hours is ok, but I’ll be honest that it’s all I’ve read and I don’t believe one study is enough to go on
