My pregnancy was high risk and I am glad

Ju

I had a high risk pregnancy due to my age (37) and being a type 2 diabetic. Being high risk meant that I had like a billion doctors appointments. Once I hit 32 weeks, o was seeing maternal fetal medicine on Tuesdays for ultrasounds and my regular OB on Fridays for the non-stress test. On Friday, July 9th, I went in for my first NST at 32.2 weeks and baby wasn’t moving much so the checked him on the ultrasound and everything looked great.

So I went on home and it was then I started noticing that baby wasn’t moving as much as usual. But I didn’t think anything of it because I just had and appt and he was still moving, just not as much.

Fast forward to Tuesday, July 13th. I was 32.6 weeks pregnant and went on for my ultrasound with the high risk doctors. Baby had to practice breathing for 30 seconds and he was o ly doing it for like 5 seconds before he would stop. So they hooked me up to the NST to how often he moved within 20 minutes. Well baby only moved 2 times and that was o ly because the doctor put the buzzer on my belly to make him move. It was then that I was told that the ultrasound should that his placenta didn’t look good and the blood flow in his umbilical cord wasn’t right either. He said that things didn’t look terrible but couple with baby not moving it was best that I go ahead and deliver so that he can go to the NICU. He went on to say that my baby looked very healthy but if I wait any longer, he could get sick or even die. He didn’t know which way it would go! 😱.

I was already scheduled to have a repeat c section so this doctors appointment turned into an emergency c section. I was terrified. I was alone because my husband had to stay with our older child while I went to my appt. the closer family to me loved 1 1/2 hours away. I thought I would have this baby alone.

But thankfully my sister was willing to make that drive to get my son and the doctors were willing to wait until my husband got there before they performed the c section. Everything went well. The hardest part was the spinal tap. They had to poke me a bunch of times before they could get it in right. It was so horrible and I was trying not to freak slut but I was freaking out.

My husband was able to be there with me thank goodness! And our little boy was born at 8:37pm. They let us see him before they whisked him off to the NICU.

I hated being high risk but I am glad I was because my baby could have died if it wasn’t for the doctor being on top of things. I am grateful to the NICU nurses who are taking such good care of him. Every day I just can help but be thankful for these wonderful people that saved my baby’s life. I had no clue that anything was wrong. He had a great heart beat. I could feel him moving in there. He is 1 week old now (gestational age 34 wks) and I am just so happy.
