E Coli while pregnant?
Went to Ob Sunday for an NST because baby wasn’t moving. Also told them my other symptoms of diarrhea/vomiting/not eating or drinking for 24 hours. They sent me home as soon as they saw baby was okay.
I called my clinic Monday (my doctor is on vacation this week) and talked to the on call nurse because my symptoms weren’t letting up, and getting worse. She sent me to urgent care who sent me to the ER who sent me to OB again. Had another NST. They finally decided to test my urine. They gave me a bag of fluids and some anti nausea meds. My results came back showing an infection but they wanted to do a culture so they could see if it was growing. Got my results this morning and sent them to my nurse practitioner friend, she said I have E Coli and need to be put on antibiotics immediately. Still haven’t heard from the dr that ordered the tests at OB. So I called and left a message with the on call nurse at the clinic and haven’t heard back.
Has anyone had E. coli while pregnant? I googled it and I shouldn’t have because I am now a ball of anxiety.
Also, will be switching hospitals after my daughter is born. I’m so frustrated with them not taking me seriously. My water broke with my daughter at 41+6 and I was having consistent contractions. I insisted it was amniotic fluid because it wouldn’t stop leaking. They tested it twice saying it was negative. Told me to go home. As I sat up I gushed more fluid and went to the bathroom to change. They tested it again, sure as heck it was amniotic fluid. Finally got admitted.
Kept having horrible pain in my back and stomach. I had mentioned to this to my dr previously and had a consultation to see about getting it removed the following week but I was in so much pain I was crying. Went there, they did labs, said everything was fine and sent me home. I was 5 minutes away when they called and said I had to come back immediately because my pancreatic levels were HIGH, she said 1 in 10 people die from it so I needed to come back immediately to be admitted to get my gallbladder out.
My son was a month old. Not able to eat anything, and when he did it projectile vomited out. He was sleeping ALL the time (more than a normal one month old) would cough so he could breathe. I knew something was wrong. All that was suggested was that I should switch formulas. I tried that, still having the same issue. And he was starting to have grey lips. Brought him back in immediately. They finally decided to do some tests after I argued with them for an hour over it. Turns out his heart was going over 290 beats per minute. He had to get airlifted to Minnesota Children’s hospital after they had to restart his heart twice. Turns out he had wolf Parkinson white syndrome, and he could’ve died if I had not advocated for him.
I’m so sick of fighting this hospital to have my concerns taken seriously. Has anyone else had issues with their hospitals and doctors not taking their concerns seriously? I’m at my wits end. I’m going to swap hospitals and doctors after my daughter is born.
