Sleeping On My Back?

Question

Ok..so it seems like the only comfortable position to sleep in nowadays is on my back! I know they say to avoid doing that at all costs, but like I just said..it's literally the ONLY position I can sleep in! Ughh!! I don't know if doing this can seriously harm me or the baby? But, I really NEED to know! What can happen if I continue to do this? And is it safe to continue to sleep like this?

I sleep on my back too i just keep a thin-ish pillow half way under my right side so I'm tilted a bit. My midwife said trust your body. You will know when it becomes unsafe because you will get light headed and uncomfortable and your body will want to roll to the side. Im a strong believer that our bodies know what's best.

I was sleeping only on my back with first pregnancy almost till the end and the baby and me was completely fine, with this one I can't sleep on my back at all. I think your body will tell you when it's time to move! Try not to stress out!:)

My friend just had a doctors appt and they said as long as you're sleeping with pillows it's not an issue. They said its when you are flat on your back that it causes problems but also that your body will alert you to issues and you'll change positions naturally. I sometimes sleep on my back I just usually have a pillow at my side so I'm kinda propped between side and back a bit.

I think as long as your head an top half of your body is elevated it should be fine.. I sleep on my back almost every night other that or my right side. I can't sleep on my left side, I can only do what my body allows. You gotta think about how many people do not follow any of these rules an still have healthy babies an non complicated pregnancies

I asked my doc and she said it was safe to sleep on your back...but I'm not sure if its still safe after 20 weeks or so

Your aorta comes off of your heart and goes down the middle of your abdomen to branch off to each kidney. Your baby's placement when looking at the front of the female body is in front of the aorta. When you lay down the baby lays down on your aorta causing you to vagal down.. This creates a rapid drop in blood pressure and heart rate. Can make you faint or vomit (this is the response the doctor was speaking of). Just to answer your question lol. 😊

My MIL was surprised when I told her the doc said not to sleep on my back.  She said she always slept on her back and both of her kids turned out fine.  I find myself on my back most nights now even though I fall asleep on my side.  I think it'll be okay.  If I feel pressure when I'm on my back, then I roll to my side.  Just pay attention to your body and its signals.
