Why not remind him then just drop it into conversation, when you are next together or on the phone say something like “you know, this weekend we’ve been together 6 months! How cool is that?”

I don't think it is really a thing for most people. Because anniversary means annual and with that it is after one year and not 6 months. If you want to celebrate 6 months on then pkan something, but don't get hurt or expect that he automatically feels the same.
